About Corner Cottage

The picturesque stone fronted Corner Cottage was built in 1780 and is a beautiful holiday home.  The amazing reclusive and serene location within the courtyard gives access within one minute to Kirkby Lonsdale’s main street with all its fantastic eateries, coffee shops, boutiques and individual shops.

Renovated to designer standards, it was only completed in February 2017.  The two-bedroomed cottage has its own style, helped by the addition of wood panelling giving it a rustic but modern twist.  It has an element of privacy but at the same time is so accessible to the beautiful town.

Room Overview

The Lounge/Dining area…..is decorated with Farrow and Ball Cornforth White and Dimpse paint colours.  The lovely hunting lodge country look has been enhanced with two Harris Tweed Sofas in Bracken Tan with cushions and throws.  Sitting in between the sofas is a solid oak coffee table with tea lights and drinks coasters.  An extra club chair with throws and cushions, along with a stylish round back chair, are also provided for visitors.  The marble top sideboard sits in the alcove housing old-fashioned noughts and crosses, dominoes and four in a row games, along with playing cards of course.  There is a gas fired Log Burner within a slate and brick hearth, along with candles and a candle snuffer to keep the cottage cosy with the help of gas central heating.  Glass pendant and wall lights are on dimmer switches to give a lovely atmosphere and all of the little quirky alcoves are lit, along with three wood and metal lamps dotted around.  There is a 32” television with Freeview and internet incorporated.  A solid oak table with 2 chairs and a large cushioned bench defines the dining area.  The finishing touches…There is a lovely wirework tree wall art, and a lovely umbrella stand and oldy worldy key hooks.  A vintage look luggage rack with coat hooks, along with a metal shoe stand are tucked around the corner. These are decorative, and we hope you like them.

The Kitchen….This kitchen area is very lightly decorated in a light blue paint colour, with cream tiles and ceramic door handles.  It houses a dishwasher, sink, gas hob double electric fan oven, and of course adorned with leathered Labrador antique granite worktops.   There is under cupboard lighting, with lovely touch bulb lights inside the corner cupboards.  You will also find all of the usual standard kitchen equipment including, toasters, microwave, fridge and freezer.  Additionally, there is a   Bodum Cafétière, espresso cups, pestle and mortar, Savoir Faire Cheese Board & Glass Dome, kilner jars, along with other lovely specialist kitchen items ideal to use on a luxury break.  Enjoy the granite ledge over to the lounge area with spare tea lights and wine rack to help relax your time away.

The downstairs area hosts an amazing spiral staircase Up the Apples and Pears……. Wind your way up the amazing spiral staircase to…….

The landing cupboard houses a washing machine, ironing board, iron, (if you really feel the need to iron?), pan, brush, mops etc

Main Bathroom…This brand new fitted Porcelanosa mosaic tiled bathroom in pale grey and white is very spacious.  There is a large power shower area with a dual head shower system with chrome fittings.  There are bright spot lights along with rustic wall lights with filament light bulbs which can be dimmed, as well as a shaver socket and a glass and chrome shelving unit for all your bits and bobs.  A period style heated towel rail finishes the whole look off in this spacious bathroom, which also has its own full length mirror.

Master Bedroom..….This time a with Kingsize biscuit colour Laura Ashley Victorian style bed with John Lewis bedding. There is a stylish large upholstered bench at the bottom of the bed.  Every detail has been thought through, including a dimmer switch to the centre chandelier for that certain atmospheric form of lighting, along with bedside lights of course.    This room has a rustic, hessian cream and black look, decorated in Cord colours with matching cushions and throw.  An amazing double mahogany wardrobe, having inlaid marquetery with full length mirror and large storage drawer complements the rest of the room.  A flatscreeen freeview TV is wall mounted. Again, shelves for your cuppa and charger points for mobiles mixes the old with the new.

Double Bedroom….Having a beautiful Victorian style, cream Laura Ashley double bed with John Lewis Croft bedding. The vintage look is finished off with a solid oak wardrobe which is lit inside with the original quirky hooks for hangers.  A very useful chest of drawers, all lined with William Morris drawer liners, sits in a lit alcove.  There is a stylish upholstered bench at the bottom of the bed.  Shelves for your cuppa, and charger points for mobiles mixes the old with the new.  Glass pictures showing a small collection of postcards collected from the auction rooms locally just fit nicely with the Victorian furniture.  There is also a flatscreen freeview tv  which is wall mounted.  Bedside lights and the lovely lit alcove help again with the ambiance of this room decorated in skylight blue colours.

Outside the cottage…. You will find a pretty patio area which is south facing until late afternoon.  A stylish wirework bench with two chairs and a table sits in the little sun trap.  Time to relax and read the newspapers with your coffee or glass of wine!  Bird feeders are dotted around to enjoy.

The designer’s bit…..  As you can see from the gallery, this cottage has been a labour of love since we purchased it from our lovely neighbours in July 2016.  We never thought we would be lucky enough to own two beautiful properties in what we think is “a little slice of heaven”, being Kirkby Lonsdale.  We decided to fit a brand new high specification bathroom and totally re-plaster the cottage from top to bottom.  Corner Cottage has a more contemporary feel which I think is due to the rough sawn boarding used in the lounge and dining area.  Farrow and Ball Colours have been used throughout and with bedding, throws and cushions from John Lewis.  The artist Christina Harris has been a favourite of mine and I was lucky enough to buy three of her sheep paintings in the sale room…these are all individually named- Swaledale sheep, titled “Oh Dear, Not Again!”, Herdwick Sheep titled “Lost Again” and Dalesbred Sheep titled “Is It Teatime?”  Many of the old pieces and quirky items I have had great pleasure in buying in the local sale room at auction to complete the mix of old and new.  All local tradesmen have been employed to see through the high standard and quality renovation.

The Safety bit…. There are door stops provided whilst you are in the property for your convenience.  There is a smoke alarm in the kitchen and located in most of the other main areas along with carbon monoxide detectors.  There is a fire extinguisher if needed and a fire blanket.

Big No No’s…This cottage is strictly pet free.  As a family, we use the cottage as our special second home and want to keep it immaculate, and we have members of the family who suffer from asthma, hence the pet free rule.  My customers visit knowing that all of the bedding is anti-allergy.  The cottage is also, smoke free.

Corner Cottage has a sister property right next door…Chapel Cottage.  Chapel Cottage sleeps six people so would be ideal if looking for a group of ten to stay within the two properties.  Please take a look at www.chapelcottagekirkbylonsdale.com
